Hippy Markets

Ibiza has long been known as a hippy hideaway, so it makes sense that the hippy markets would be plentiful. These places are amazing, and you'll find several to choose from across the island. These are just a couple of the most popular.

  • Las Dalias Hippy Market (Sant Carles de Peralta)

With roots that date back to 1985, the Las Dalias Hippy Market is one of the oldest, largest and most visited markets on the entire island. This huge open-air street market is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. all year around. Visitors may expect to enjoy some 200 stalls, and a Saturday in August may see as many as 20,000 shoppers. Anything that you could possibly want is available for sale, and you'll discover one-of-a-kind paintings, musical instruments, hand-woven clothing, handmade shoes, antiques, incense, jewelry, hammocks, records, crafts and so much more.

You'll need a break from all of that shopping, and it's easy to relax with the onsite restaurant that offers delicious cuisines from around the world, an epic tapas bar, homemade pizzas, decadent desserts, a natural juice and exotic tea bar and a full-service bar. Visitors are also welcome to relax in the Soul Bar during the afternoons while live DJs spin the tunes.

There's even a special area for the children with activities that include arts and crafts, balloon animals, a puppet theater, juggling and fun, interactive games.

The fun doesn't end there because there's also a Night Market held from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. It features 100 stalls for shopping, a restaurant with delicious food and lovely outdoor dining, a full-service bar, a juice bar and live music concerts.

  • Hippy Market Punta Arabia (Es Canar)

Dating all the way back to 1973 when five enterprising young hippies took to selling their wares and showcasing their talents, the Hippy Market Punta Arabia now boasts some 500 vendors, artists and craftsmen who offer such items as all-natural cosmetics, unique jewelry, fashionable clothing, crafts and cool wares from all over the world. Lunch is available on the lovely outdoor terrace of the restaurant, and the homemade paella has a reputation for greatness all over the island.

Entertainment has always been a part of the hippy markets, and visitors may enjoy live music performances under the big tent. Talented musicians from the island and abroad perform in the genres of jazz, pop, soul and the blues. There's also a special area for the children where they may enjoy some fantasy face painting, create their own masterpieces during arts and crafts, learn about recycling during a hands-on workshop and create their own t-shirts. A snack bar filled with child-friendly foods and drinks is available as well.

More Great Places to Shop

Of course, you don't have to be a hippy to enjoy the above hippy markets, but you'll also find many more exciting shopping opportunities across the island. These are a few favorites.

  • De Mil Amores (Ibiza Town)

This is an awesome place to shop if you like unusual chic clothing. Many women shop here to find some interesting outfits for their vacation or to take back home. It also has a wonderful selection of beach attire and accessories.

  • Ibizkus (San Rafael)

A premier wine store, Ibizkus is a must-visit shop for those who love wine or have friends and family back home who would love a bottle of good wine. Several wines are available that are made from local grapes, which include the rare Monastrell grape. You may choose from premium rose, red and white wines, and don't forget to ask for a tasting.

  • Can Kats Boutique (Cala Llonga)

Indonesian parasols, handmade rope sandals and colorful bohemian handbags are just a few of the cool products that you'll find at this boutique, and you'll definitely want to spend some time exploring all of the unique items that are tucked away on the shelves.
